New London jazz haunt Oriole is set to impress

January 30, 2018

One of the newest London haunts, jazz bar Oriole will not disappoint even an experienced hepcat. Located at the back of Smithfield Meat Market, the venue has all the hallmarks of a speakeasy, with an entrance door that can be easily missed between the many delivery lorries on a poorly lit back street.

Oriole is the sister concept of hugely successful Nightjar in Shoreditch and its glamorous interior is an eclectic mix of art deco and Colonial styles. The bar features a stage that is host to many exhilarating nights of live music and bands that take you back to the mystique of 20s and 30s.

The cocktail menu is set out across three chapters: Old World, New World and the Orient with some obscure ingredients – Ghanaian prekese, saponaria, kala fruit and Peruvian lucuma.

Small tapas are a thing here and they split into meat/fish and vegetarian sections. We made it simple and ordered the entire seafood menu which was delicious and included shrimp taco, crab chipa bread, sea bass ceviche and spicy octopus!
